HAVE A GREAT DAY

   Protect yourself against the FLU!!  Get vaccinated!!  The Renaissance school health office is offering the flu shot to all students. Please sign up in the nurse’s office or see a health office ambassador in the gym before school.

   Starting Monday all students who need to ride a late bus must report at 3:20 to room 117 with a bus pass from the teacher with whom they stayed.  Students who are walking or getting picked up should go directly outside.

   Coffee House today, October 24th!

   Students: Are you a skier or snowboarder?  Do you want to learn how?  Join the Renaissance Ski Club!  Sign up outside Mr. Levine or Ms. Hale’s rooms in the science wing (rooms 145/139).  We will have an interest meeting on Monday, October 28th at 2:30 in room 145.  Think snow!

   Mock Trial begins on Monday, October 28th after school in the Black Box.

   Any student planning to perform at the Coffee House event, please see Ms. Camara in the Black Box by the end of school on Thursday, 10/24 for important information about the event.

   Want support for the coffee house? (October 24th is the real deal). Support session is the day before,  in the library, that’s Wednesday, October 23rd – the Performance Club. The Performance Club also supports students who are interested in the national school competition called Poetry Outloud. See you there October 23 , 2:20-3:20. And Coffee House on the 24th!

  2. The Phoenix Virtual Flying Club will not meet this week.  However, they will resume flying Thursday of next week.

    This arrangement is in place because the late buses do not arrive until sometime between 2:40 and 2:50, and we do not want students waiting outside for that amount of time.  Students who are walking or getting picked up should go directly outside.

No, not a cruel Halloween prank… It’s time to DONATE BLOOD again!  

WHEN:  Thursday, October 17th from 8:00am-1:00pm

WHERE: The BLOODMOBILE will be parked outside the guidance offices.

WHO:  If you are 16 years old or older, you have the opportunity to potentially save three lives by your one donation!  Every pint counts!  

(Literally, if we make it to 26 pints, The Ducharme/Farrenkopf Crew will be able to award a $250 scholarship to a graduating senior for college!)

Faculty & Staff: Please email Corey Farrenkopf at NOW to reserve a time that works for your prep schedule.

Students: Be on the lookout for donation time sign-ups during lunch and for Ducharme/Farrenkopf Crew members coming around to Junior & Senior crews to sign you up in the next week.

Women in Engineering and Computing Career Day

This year’s Career Day will take place on Monday October 29, 2012 at the Lincoln Campus Center Auditorium at UMASS Amherst from 8:30am to 1:30pm. This event is geared towards female high school students (grades 9-12) to introduce them to the field of engineering.  There is a maximum of 10 students per school. Registration cost for each student is $20.00 dollars (scholarships are available). Women of Color interested in science, technology, engineering and/math? 3.0+ GPA? Curious about RPI? Sign up for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s STAR Program – October 24th -26th . RPI  invites academically talented seniors, who are underrepresented minorities or young women, to apply for the STAR (Science, Technology, Arts at Rensselaer) Program. Top students in the Class of 2014 – see Ms. Cuffee-Gray! Deadline is October 14th.

Join the UMASS Nursing Initiative at Renaissance! We’ll have monthly meetings with UMASS Nursing students.

We are starting a Nursing Club with the UMASS Amherst Nursing program!  You’ll get to visit UMASS, attend trips and conferences, get free SAT tutoring and math and science help. Students in the program will get help preparing to apply to UMASS Amherst School of Nursing.

Discover Westfield State University taking place on Thursday, November 7 from 8:30- 12:30.

  1. There is no performance club in the library this week.
  2. Ms. Thomas’ crew will be coming around to crews on Thurs. 10/10 to sell breast cancer items and collect donations for the Rays of Hope.
  3. Auditions for the Winter Play “Street Scene” are 3:30-5:00 this Thursday.  We need lots of new talent to fill the play’s 23 roles. We have major, medium, and small roles we need to fill (including some “walk-on” roles).  Come try out! Actors must be available for Thursday and some Tuesday rehearsals. The show is Jan. 24 and 25.
  4. On October 12th, there will be a Volleyball 3V3 here at the Renaissance School from 9am-12pm.  There is an admission fee per team (believe to be $12.00). 

 

IMPORTANT DATES:

   October 10 @5:00 to 6:00 pm: PowerSchool for Parents portal Sign-up. ID required. You can stop by the front office any day during school hours to sign-up and get an access code as well.

   October 14, Columbus Day, All Day: Renaissance DOUGH RAI$ER at Boston Rd. UNO Pizzeria Restaurant. Please, come to eat there or take out & support our School! Fundraiser flier should be given to the waitress to benefit Renaissance.

   October 16 @6:30 pm: Renaissance PTO (Parents Network Team) Organizational Meeting. All interested & supportive parents are welcome to join the Team!

   October 19 @9:00 am: Renaissance 3v3 Basketball. Everyone Welcome! Bring your team or come alone! Invite your family & friends to watch! Parents’ help needed!

   October 24 @6 pm:  Renaissance 1st Coffee House. Come to our Black Box Theater to watch our talents in drama, music, voice, dance & to have a great time in a relaxing atmosphere with coffee and cakes. Have a talent? Show it, too!
