DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Get your act together! Our first Coffee House of the school year night is coming fast. If you have a monologue, poem, scene, song, dance, rap or any other talent in need of a great audience please come on out to the Black Box on October 23rd at 6:00pm for a fun family event! There will be sign ups at the door. See Ms. Camara with questions.
  2. Got Adventure Trip photos that you want to see make it onto the Renaissance website or get posted in the hallways of the school?! Please email them to Mr. Soycher (soycherm@sps.springfield.ma.us). Thanks!
  3. SWAG DAY is on Friday, 10/24!!!!!!
  4. Renaissance will be hosting a group of 30 students-basketball players from Australia (ages 15-17 years old) on December 9 and 10. There is an exciting opportunity to become a HOST FAMILY for two (or more if you have enough beds and bathrooms J) of them. Host Family Form can be picked at the front office. If you are interested please print and fill it up and send it to school (Attn. Sasha Heiney). If you need a paper copy or have a question please contact Parent Facilitator Sasha Heiney (heineya@sps.springfield.ma.us or call 413-750-2929, ext. 1000.
  5. Fan Fiction meeting in Ms. Pirog’s room 164 on Thursdays.
  6. Martial Arts Practice in small gym.  Wednesday after school!  Come join us!
  7. This fall’s Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network Convention will be held at Westfield high from 9-5 on November 1. If you’re interested in going, please visit glsen.org to register. Transportation will be provided from Central. If you have any questions, please see Ariana or Tiffinie  in 12th grade or anyone that attended AnyTown, Ms. Cuffee-Gray.
  8. Boys Basketball is having a fundraiser from 10/20 to 11/18. Anyone interested in ordering please can do so with anyone of the players.
  9. Breakfast will be served ONLY UNTIL 7:25. Students who wish to eat breakfast MUST go down on time.
  10. Sodexo is having a “STOP Hunger Food Drive” beginning Monday, 10/20/14 through Friday, 11/14/14. If you would like to donate any nonperishable food items, please deposit them in the boxes that will be stationed in the cafeteria. The food will be given to the Springfield Rescue Mission and the Gray House. Thank you!
  11. The Renaissance Virtual Flying Club will NOT be meeting on Thursday of this week. Take-offs and landings will resume in room 147 next Thursday, 10/30.
  12. Music club meets Wednesdays after school in 117.

Picture Retake for Students and Staff!!!!

Times:   7-7:35 and 9:45- 11:30

  1. Garden club will meet on Thursday, 10/16 in Room 55 at 2:20 to plan and then plant our tulip, daffodil, and crocus garden.  All are welcome in this effort to brighten and beautify the exterior of our school.   Any questions, see Mrs. Markey in Room 55.

DO YOU WANT TO LEARN?  Join the Renaissance Ski Club.  Our first meeting will be on Thursday, 10/16 at 2:25 in room 145 (Mr. Levine’s room.  This will be a short MANDATORY informational meeting to tell students about the cost, dates, and other important information.  If you want to join but cannot make the meeting, you MUST talk to Mr. Levine, Ms. Hale, Ms. Cinelli or Ms. Dill before Thursday, 10/16.

Please come anyway we will find you one. HS, MS, mix and family categories. Registration is $5 per player.
  10. Fem-Powerment meeting this Thursday, 10/16 during High School lunch in Ms. Dill’s room (130A). See Julia Cary or Nicole Tyler for more details.
  11. High school students interested in playing baseball, please attend a meeting Thursday after school at 3:15 pm in Mr. Park’s room.  The coach will be there to answer your questions.  See Korben Cherkas for more information.

Smith Preview Day

If you signed up for Smith Preview Day that occurs on November 11th (Veteran’s Day) and will be taking the Holyoke/Springfield bus, please be sure to email the Smith College Admissions Officer, Ms. Doulette.   2. LIBRARY LATE DAY is Monday. MS look for Ms. Pfeifer in the cafeteria on Mondays to sign up.

  6. Thursday 10/9:  To celebrate Coming Out Day on the 11th, GSA will be selling rainbow ribbons for 50 cents TOMORROW. Wear the ribbon to show your support for equal rights!
  7. Car wash this Saturday, October 11 (for basketball) from 10am to 2pm and the cost will be $5 per car. It will be held here at the Renaissance school.

  4. Phoenix Astronomy Club invites you to a total eclipse of the moon Wednesday morning, 10/8 before school. Weather permitting, we’ll have viewing and hot cider in the Renaissance parking lot when the eclipse begins at 4:15 am. When the Sun rises (in mid-eclipse) we will retire inside for a waffle breakfast. All are welcome.
