  • Ambassadors lunch and mandatory meeting on TUESDAY, April 15 in Room 118 at 10:25am.
  • Wednesday, April 16th – Half-day of Student-led family conferences from 11:30 till 4:30. Note, there are no SFLCs for 8, 10 and 12 grades (as they will be doing Passage Portfolios & Senior Talks).  The same day, Wednesday, April 16th PTO will be doing its first Fundraiser selling a Fair Trade chocolate Bars, items from our School’s Store & donated baking goods to students, parents, teachers & anybody who wish to support our PTO. We are asking for your help to make this fundraiser successful! Treat yourself with a piece of pastry or a chocolate bar & support PTO!
  • The Renaissance Gay Straight Alliance is sponsoring The National Day of Silence on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Sign up at lunch to participate.  Students who have signed up will have a participation card with them that they should show you if they wish to remain silent. Thank you for your support! MG
  • National Poetry Month is NOW — April! Submit up to three poems ANY style to the library poem box.

    Boys of Color in Grades 9-12 – Win up to $2,500 for College by competing in the Senator Edward Brooks, III Oratorical Contest – Public Speaking.  Edward Brown was a finalist last year!

    This year’s theme is My Brother’s Keeper: What Can Our Institutions, Society and I do to Positively Influence the Plight of Black and Latino Males? The intent of this topic is to inspire the speaker to explore and present his ideas for addressing the status of Black and Latino males in our society. This can be developed in the context of but not limited to factors such as health, socio-economics, education, family, crime, sexuality and cultural values. We encourage the oratorical participants to present in their speeches ways he and the community can address the declining status of a growing number of Black and Latino males.

Tuesday, March 18th Announcements

HAVE A GREAT DAY

  • TSRS Swag Day will be on Friday, 3/28.
  • March 29, Saturday, 9-12 pm, Renaissance Annual 3 v 3 basketball tournament March Madness”. MS, HS and Open (teachers, families, college students, community).  Music, a concession table, 50/50 raffle, prizes. All proceeds will benefit our Basketball team. Registration Fee is $5 per player at the day of Tournament.
  • Motors wanted – alive or dead.  Senior physics classes are studying electromagnetics as they apply to electric motors and generators.  If you have old, unused (or even dead) items that use electric motors and you are willing to sacrifice them to scientific scrutiny we’ll take ‘em.  Please drop them off in Room 147 in the very near future.  Thanks in advance.
  • Teachers please have your basketball players see Ms. Marshall for fundraising materials.  Thank you.
  • Renaissance Gay Straight Alliance meets every Thursday in Gillane’s room, room 50,  during high school lunch-come plan for National GSA Day, Day of Silence and Awareness Week-be the change you want to see in the world!

  • Scholar Athlete 9th and 10th grade boys who want to do well in school and love basketball, Elms College and the Springfield Boys and Girls Club has something for you! Common Club is a program that is focusing on academics and basketball skills. The program begins this coming Sunday at 8:30. The schedule is •Sunday, March 23 2014 •Saturday, March 29 2014 Sunday, April 6 2014 •Saturday, April 12 2014 •Saturday, April 26 2014 •Saturday/Sunday, May 1/2 2014 – students must commit to attending all days. The day is 8:30-4:30pm.  Get a program description and application in Guidance and Counseling. You need to complete and bring with you to Elms College on Sunday.
